Google Adsense の背景に画像を置いていいのか問題
Google Adsense の広告が地味だからスタイリッシュにしちゃおうぜ、という趣旨の記事が以前微妙に話題になりました。
しかし規約的にこれやっちゃって大丈夫なの？と思われた方も多数居るものと思います。私も規約違反ではないのかと懐疑的に見ていました。しかしこの点について非常に参考になる記事を発見しました。

この記事では広告の背景に画像を置くことは規約違反にならないのかをGoogleに問合せ、結果として以下のことを結論しています。

この言葉を信じるのであれば、背景画像を置くことが即規約違反になるわけではない、とのことです。詳細は当該記事を読んでいただくとして、背景に画像を置くていいのかどうかについてはポイントがいくつかあるようです。特に重要だと思えるのはGoogle側の返答のこれです。

To be more clear, it all depends on the implementation. User clicks should result from genuine interest in the ads rather than deceptive implementation.
As mentioned above, background images are sometimes OK depending on the implementation. Some background images are deceptive in the way they are designed. Others are not as deceptive, but the placement on the page might trick users into clicking on them.
つまり、広告とコンテンツが明確に分けられていること、かつ不正なクリックを誘導しないこと、の二点を中心として各ケースごとに判断するようです。以上のことから、背景画像を置くことや広告周辺をCSSで飾ることは許容される（場合がある）、と考えて良いかと思います。
ただしもちろん、この記事を真に受けて実際にやってみたらアカウント抹消されました、というようになるかも知れないのでお気をつけあれ。特に広告とコンテンツが明確に識別できるものでないとダメみたいなので、デザイン的な統一感を出したいから、という目的で広告を装飾すると規約違反になる可能性がある気がします。正直、これなら大丈夫！という判断がしづらいので、私にはまだ手を出す勇気がありません。
